Booking and payment
- Do I need an account to book?
- Yes. Sign in with Google and it’s one tap, or we’ll email you a link if you’d rather not use Google — there’s no password to invent. The account is how we know who’s in the room, and how we reach you if a workshop moves.
- How do I pay?
- PayNow. You’ll get a QR code at checkout with the amount already filled in, you pay from your banking app, then you upload a screenshot of the payment.
- Why a screenshot? Why not just take my card?
- Because we’re a small volunteer collective and card fees are more than we can absorb — every dollar of a card fee is a dollar not spent on flying an instructor here. The screenshot is what tells us the money arrived, and a person checks it.
- When am I confirmed?
- We’ll confirm with you within three working days. If you haven’t heard from us by then, do get in touch and we’ll sort it out.
- Is my place held while I wait?
- Yes. Your place is claimed the moment you submit your payment screenshot — not when you pick your workshops. So do finish the upload.
- When exactly does Early Bird end?
- 20 September 2026, 11:59pm Singapore time. The whole of the 20th is still Early Bird; standard prices start on the 21st.
- Can I change my workshops after I've booked?
- Not from the website. Message us on Instagram with your booking reference and what you’d like to change, and we’ll sort it by hand.
- Can I get a refund if I can't make it?
- Bookings are non-refundable. That’s the same for every ACE edition — we book instructors and venues against the places sold, so we can’t give the money back if something comes up.
You can pass your place to someone else, though, and we’ll help. It’s yours to transfer or sell on:- Put it on your Instagram story and tag us — we'll repost it to help you find someone.
- Once you've found them, message us with your booking reference and their name and email.
- We move the place across by hand, so the register and their confirmation are correct.
Workshops and level
- I've never done Afro dance. Is that a problem?
- Not at all — every year there are people coming to this dance for the first time, wanting to learn it. Every workshop is built for people who haven’t done this before. If you’d rather ease in, start with a History & Foundations workshop. At least a year of street dance experience is recommended.
- What's the difference between History & Foundations and Drills & Choreography?
- A Foundations workshop spends real time on where the dance comes from and the base movements it’s built from. A Drills & Choreography workshop moves faster and you leave with a routine. Both are open to Afro beginners. Only one of them is designed around your first day.
- How many workshops should I book?
- Four is the sweet spot if you’re new — enough to feel the difference between one style and the next, and it brings the Freestyle & Battle down to $28 from $35. Seven if you can spare the time: you get all three styles across the week rather than a taste of one or two. Nine is the whole thing — every style, every night, learning it straight from the people who carry it. These three instructors are flown in for one week a year, so if the time is there, take it.
- Do I need to bring a partner?
- No — these aren’t partner styles. You dance on your own in a full room, and most people arrive on their own too. Bring a friend if you want the company, but you won’t need one.
- Can I do all three of Saturday's workshops back to back?
- Yes, and people do. It’s 2:30 to 7:30 with fifteen minutes between each. Bring food, plenty of water, a second shirt and shoes you can dance in. Alternatively, support us by buying our merchandise :)
On the day
- How early should I arrive?
- Fifteen minutes. Workshops start on time — the schedule is tight enough that a late start eats into the next one.
- What if I'm late?
- Not planning on it, are you? Haha. These instructors are here for one week — don’t miss a minute of them. But if the bus lets you down, come in anyway. Slip in at the back, join the count, and nobody will make a thing of it.
- What should I wear and bring?
- Shoes you can turn in, clothes you can sweat in, a spare top, and more water than you think you need. Studio floors are sprung — no outdoor soles.
Showcase and battle
- Can I come and watch without dancing?
- Yes. Come to the ACE 2026 Showcase as an audience member — nothing to prepare, nothing to perform. Tickets aren’t on sale yet; the price and the on-sale date go up on the ticket page, and we post updates on Instagram.
- Can I perform in the Showcase?
- There are no auditions, and two things decide it. You need seven workshops or more, and you need to be in the instructor’s first workshop — the one on the first two days, where they meet the room. An instructor can only pick someone they have seen dance. Selected dancers are told in person and announced by 15 October.
- Who can do the Freestyle & Battle?
- Anyone who has taken at least one ACE workshop — this year or a previous edition. It’s $25 with nine workshops, $28 with four or seven, and $35 with one, two or three, or if you came to a previous ACE.
