Afro Singapura brings African dance — and the culture it comes from — to Singapore. Styles are taught with their history first, by the people who carry them.

The camp

What ACE is

ACE — the Afro Collective Experience — is the week we run each year. International instructors come to Singapore to teach, local crews and invited guests join them, and it closes with a showcase and a battle. 2026 is the third edition.

It is built for people who have never tried Afro dance as much as for people who have been dancing for years. Most of the room is learning something new that week, which is the point.

We come to these dances as guests of the culture, so every class starts with where the movement comes from before it gets to the choreography.

The room

Who turns up

Studio dancers, freestylers, school crews and people who have never taken a class. Mostly between 16 and 40, mostly there with someone.

Founders

Who runs it

Both have taught for over a decade and lead school clubs and street-dance crews. They also run Afro Dance courses, teaching foundations to their own students.

  • Loy Xue Hui “Hua”

    Co-Founder, Afro Singapura

    Xue Hui, also known as Hua, is an independent artist who started her career at the age of 17. She was scouted by the founder of O School and began performing, teaching and choreographing both locally and internationally, winning many accolades at dance showcases and battles. She first encountered Afro dance through renowned Los Angeles choreographer Tony Tzar in 2016. A seeker of knowledge, she has travelled to Ghana, South Africa and London taking private classes to learn various African dance styles.

  • Ruzaini Ismail “Zaini”

    Co-Founder, Afro Singapura

    Zaini is an independent dance instructor who began his journey in 2011. He has placed in many competitions under the crews Blaqueneez, JAPBLAQ and Andro. He believes in the importance of versatility and individuality as a dancer, and now spearheads his own crew, Wolfpack. The team has competed in events such as Super 24 and WSB Singapore representing Afro dance, claiming 2nd Runner-Up in WSB's Monster Category.
